Should there be less games in a NBA season, too many injuries as is?

Man, like all the teams have major injury issues. Is the season too grueling and long? Less games per week might help?

Should there be less games in a NBA season, too many injuries as is?nba draft picks

Yes, there should be a cut-off in games, let's say about 10 or 12.

Injuries happen because of fatigue due to back-to-back games and sometimes 4 games in 5 nights.

Stop comparing baseball to basketball, ok?

There's no body contact in baseball, they just run and catch and throw. It's different in basketball games, they drew contact, bump into each other, step on other's foot, and so on and so forth.

It's like soccer, football, rugby, and other games that involve body contacts.

Dating back to the early years of NBA (pre-shot clock era), there weren't as much contact as now.

Players right now are much stronger, they do more gyms, body-building, etc.

I would really want the games to be cut-off.

Thanks!

I hope you enjoyed this answer.. =)

Should there be less games in a NBA season, too many injuries as is?nba playoffs ,nba teams

nah, i don't think so. it's all part of the job. the excitement and anxiety. and it depends on the coach.he can rest his players in a game or two. and the league makes the schedule easy. if they are on a road trip, they play the neighboring teams(e.g. the kings played the mavs yesterday and today they play at nuggets and on april 6 the mavs play at denver).. so it's like that. and plus, every team has its own physical trainor, medical team, etc. so there's nothing to worry about. another thing, i think the players make sure they stay healthy as much as possible, coz they go to the gym, eat balanced diet, etc. and some players just make up injuries so they won't play, or other coaches rest their starters several games before the playoffs.
Injuries are a part of every sport whether its playing 1 game or 182, but I think they should reduce the schedule where theres more rest time between games, maybe not even reducing the amount of games, just increasing the time in between.
Or give certain players the day off. It works in baseball that certain players take a day off during the week, and maybe NBA coaches should do that more often. They really can't because tickets cost so much, and certain teams are on national television every game.
The 2006/2007 season has probably been the most injury ridden season in the NBA.

Here's a sample of Players who are or have been on the injury list

Lebron James - tendinitis

Josh Childress - stress fracture

Caron Butler - broke a bone

Dwane Wade - Dislocated shoulder

Jermaine O'Neal - Knee

Zach Randolph - surgery on hand

Quentin Richardson - back surgery

Steve Francis - right ankle

Joe Johnson - calf

Ray Allen - left ankle

The list is staggering - Andrea Bargnani, Quentin Richardson, Peja Stojakovic, Andrew Bogut, Shaun Livingston, Kenyon Martin, Michael Olowokandi, Sean May, Nash, Odom, Kenyon Martin, Wade, Yao Ming ...

I think there's great pressure on today's athletes to perform, they are pushed to the limits night after night. Pressure comes fans, coaches, team owners, endorsement companies etc

I am sure 10 years ago there were fewer injuries in the NBA and they still played 82 games.
Injuries are a part of the game, look at baseball, 162 games a year 6 games a week, the NBA players have no reason to complain.
no more careful playing would
no way
If you compare the soccer and basketball leagues in Europe to the NBA basketball is that they have one week or more breaks before the next game and the NBA does not. They get better practice time between games than the NBA, (which gives time to develop younger European players in fundamentals) who's best practice time is really the pre-season training camp only.

With ever more increase of travelling (because of new franchises) and back to backs this adds more strain. Also the competition is getting tighter with stronger and faster players(more exertion). Players really push hard in the off season as well with crazy work out regiments (instead of improving smart basketball techniques), this mentality also contributes to players returning early and re-injuring themselves.

True medical science has improved, but proper rest has decreased.

I believe the number of games should be reduced and spanned out better (no back to backs)...this should open the door to inter-league games between Europe that the NBA...something the front office has been drooling about. With more world basketball games and olympic participation this would also ensure All year round of basketball and not a 4 month or more off-season lay-off and much better quality. Can't wait till that happens. Hope this helps. Best of Luck.
